Dye in clothes?

Kim, I don't always remember to do this, but I like to pre-wash just about everything...clothes, blankets, etc. before using them. I got a (people-sized) shirt for a gift and it said on the tag to wash it before wearing it the first time due to the dye possibly not being color-fast. (I found this an odd message on a shirt tag!)

The problem with doll clothes is that they're sometimes so tight on the doll to begin with, so you don't want to shrink them! But if washed in cold water and left to air-dry there hopefully wouldn't be a problem with them shrinking.

Or, if you bought them from one of the talented seamstresses online, you could ask her if she preshrinks fabrics. The clothes for my dolls are homemade and I always wash the cloth ahead of time, so I would think maybe others who sew might do this too (?).

I haven't had a problem with anything so far, though! [img]biggrin.gif[/img] The only time I've ever had trouble is when one thing got wet and "bled" onto another thing (I stupidly washed a burgundy comforter with a light-colored flannel!).

I've been somewhat keeping up with the thread on doll clothes and was wondering if anyone has had problems with the dyes running. I was thinking of purchasing some non-AG clothes for my dolls, but after hearing on another board that the dye ran an got on the doll I am sort of wary. Has anyone had this happen with non-AG doll clothes or with AG clothes?

Thanks Melissa [img]smile.gif[/img] I just get nervous about putting something on the dolls that isn't AG. I think you are right about washing first. I just don't want to spend the money on a doll and then have her dyed. I will definitely ask if the clothes have been prewashing.
